Current Event 28 March 2011

Last week on the news they were talking about the All Blacks wearing a red Silver Fern on their tops for one of their games which would have been played in Christchurch had we not had the earthquake. A lot of people were interviewed and amongst positive comments one person said we should not have the All Blacks wear a red Silver Fern on their jerseys because surely by the time the Rugby World Cup comes around Christchurch would have "gotten over it."

What do you think of this comment?
How would people feel who have lost their homes or loved ones?
How long do you think it will take Christchurch (not to get over it but) to move forward and recover from this?
Do you think it would be a good idea for the All Blacks to show solidarity for Christchurch during the Rugby World Cup? Why?

Discuss your opinion with your family. Decide on a comment you are going to post. Make sure you write more than a few lines and back up your comments with reasons.

Q1 I think that they shouldn't change the silver fern but at least make their wrist bands red.
Q2 the people effected would probably feel really bad and stress.

Q3 I think years if you include the buildings but if you just mean the people it shouldn't take to long but the people who are close to the people who dyed will probably take longer.

Q4 Yes it would be a good idea because it would be nice to show respect to the people effected.

i think people would get really anoyed because if you lost some body or some thing that was important to you.you would'nt like people saying stuff like that i personly think its nice to do something like that cause it means they are supporting you and your not on your own.

i think it will take christchurch ages to recover and to move forward i think when they start to rebuld and to get to normal then people will get over it

yes it would be a good reason so people no that every body will no that all the people are one and there not on there own and shows restpec

Thats horrible that someone would say that its horrible id feel really sad if i lost my family or loved one...i can see why they would wear the red fern its to show support so its very fear.

Personally i dont think anyone will ever forget these last couple of years but for sure everyone will recover and remember these exciting yet terrifying expeariences. But ive course it will take a matter of time before anyone will try to leave these days behind and bring the new ones. But ive course no one will forget all those lovley lives lost. if i was to take an apropiate guess of how long id say around a couple of years.

For sure that would be a great idea because it will make chirstchurch feel like there not alone and that people are looking out for them.

I know a couple of people that have died in this quake and because its a second one its even more unsettleing and the cost to fix christchurch will be really high. Also ive noticed alot of supermarkets in rangiora completly filled and the popullation will have at least doubled.

I am blown away about what he said i do think there should be a red fern on their top for this game.

People who have lost their homes would feel shaken up and scared and they just don't know what to do all they can think about is the earthquake it would make them feel special if the all blacks did have a red fern for them though and maby it would take their mind off it for a bit.

I dont think the people who have lost friends family and their homes will ever forget this they will store it in their life and to ever move on from this in a short amount of time they are just weird but people will never forget this moment.

I think the all blacks should do this because as i said it would make the people in the earthquake feel special so i DO THINK THE ALL BLACKS SHOULD WEAR THE RED FERN!

Q1:I THINK THAT THEY WOULD BE PREETTY UPSET ABOUT IT
Q2:IT WILL PROBELY TAKE THEM A LONG TIME TO GET OVER IT
Q3:YES I THINK THAT IT WILL BE A GREAT IDEA BECAUSE THEN OTHER PEOPLE MIGHT COME OVER AND HELP USE RECOVER AND ALSO LOTS OF PEOPLE WOULD SHOW LOTS OF RESPET TO CHCH

EXTRA IDEAS OR THOUGHTS:

1]THEY COULD HAVE RED WRIST bands that they could wear insted of changing there uniform
2]they could also sell thoes BANDS 4 HOPE at allof the games
3]if i waz one of them i would very upset and deprest, worried
4]for the wrist bands when they sell them they could put all the money towods helping chch get back on its feet
5]i would fell very worreid because there could be be another suprize waiting for us and that surprize is another EARTHQUAKE

I think it was a horrible thing to say especially when people have died. It sounded as if the person did not even care about Canterbury

You would feel absolutely terrible something you can't even imagine

It will take years to recover because Of all the rubble and rubbish

I think it is a great idea and it would show that we are all one and can get throw this bad time

I think that whoever wrote this comment is very silly and obviously hasn't lost anything because if he/she did they would be sating somthing alog the lines of: OH NO Chch will NEVER be able t get over this.

I thnk tat if I had lost someone or something important I would take offence to that and I am pretty sure lots more people would too.

I think it will take Chch years and years to recover. I mean look at Chch after the first earthqake(the one in september). when we got to this one EQC was still checking houses all over Chch and probably had loads more to go and now they have to start all over again.

I think it would be a really really nice thing to do and I totaly agree with putting a red fern on the all blacks T-shirts. To show support and to comfort Chch a little bit.

I think that is a horrible thing to say and how could people get over losing loved ones. Wearing a red fern on their t.shirts would be a nice thing to say and it would tell the people of canterbury that the allblacks are there and willing to help and support all the way.

Q1:I dont think chch will get over it but maybe if we dont have another quake chch will start to recover.Q2: i would feel really bad if i lost someone so i can imagine everyone else would.Q3:4 years maybe,it depends how many more quakes there are.Q4:i think the all blacks should wear the red ferns to show their respect to chch and to make up for not having the game in chch.by rylee
